A new full position 1.

b>I just started a new stock at a full position

As you well know, what I usually do with a new stock is take a tiny starter position and then add to it slowly and cautiously. Well last week I discovered Bert’s September write-up on Alteryx (AYX), which IPO’ed just nine months ago, and is still largely unknown to investors, then read the few comments to Bert’s article (which were mostly by people who use the product), then looked at the last earnings releases and the investor presentation, and fell wildly in love with the investing opportunity this stock represents, and took a 6.0% position over the past week. By the way, don’t waste our time criticising the stock or my pick unless you’ve read Bert’s article:

I’m going to post this in pieces as I’m having trouble posting.

Hi Saul,

When I look at a new company, what concerns me more than anything else is the integrity of management. All the great numbers in the world mean nothing if the guys in charge are faking it or making off with the proceeds, both all too common. I don’t see that either you or Bert has addressed this, but perhaps I missed it in my quick perusal.

Saul

In light of the most recent quarter’s results announced by Alteryx, I hereby nominate the original post from this thread for The Motley Fool Hall of Fame, despite the formatting issues that caused it to be broken into pieces. Having followed Saul’s board for more than 6 months prior to this posting, I quickly discerned that for Saul to start off by taking a full-sized position warranted attention. Despite that, I still didn’t buy my first AYX shares until January 25th (for about $29/share). However, following the wisdom of adding to winners, I added to my position on February 22nd and May 30th(for about $33/share each time).

Being up about 80% for a position that was only started within this year is quite nice.

For Saul’s full discussion from when he opened his Alteryx position as a single post, here is a link to a later thread:
