Back in 2015 Mark Jacobson of Stanford published a paper on using 100% renewable energy.

In 2017 Clack et al. published a rebuttal/critique.

Pretty standard academic dueling. However, Jacobson sued both Clack and PNAS for $10 million.

After much criticism in 2018 Jacobson dropped the lawsuit. However, he was found to be liable to cover Clack’s legal fees as the result of filing a frivolous lawsuit. There was an appeal, but the ruling was upheld.
