13-yr-old Accepted to Medical School

She just got accepted to medical school. She’s 13.

During the COVID lockdown, she started taking online college level courses in biology and is well on the way to two university degrees.

Skimmed another related article (this one seems to be behind a paywall). Acceptance is for 2024, so she will be 15 when she starts. Sounded like an “accelerated program”, i.e., combining college and medical school together for 6 years duration instead of traditional 8. So starting clinical rotations in year 5 which makes her 19. My main concern would be her social/emotional maturity, but you could almost ask that about anyone going to medical school.

FWIW, my medical school had an accelerated program but shut it down after about 10 years due to the higher than average drop out rate.
