So first there was a supposed offer from Sami Ungar. There was also talk of a management led buyout. More recently, Hapag Lloyd stepped in and made a bid. And now, supposedly, MSC want ZIM.

While ZIM does have a sizable fleet, many of the vessels are not owned but chartered in. Sure, those contracts could likely be novated to the eventual acquirer. As noted in the comments, Hapag Lloyd has a significant MiddleEastern ownership. That might make an Israeli-leaning company (Israel has a golden share - with likely veto vote) more likely to favor other bids.
