A New Airline Nightmare

{{ In-flight evangelists have preached sermons and busted out guitars in recent years. Some travelers lament that they “can’t even walk away.” }}

Why isn’t this disruptive? If someone started preaching Sharia Law, it would be stopped quickly.

In flight?! I thought it was bad enough at parties.

I always carry ear plugs in my purse. There might be a crying baby in a supermarket. I especially wear ear plugs on airplanes. The engine noise is stressful even if it’s not quite as stressful as preachers.

I just turn off my hearing aids.

I have tinnitus, so loud noises (like my beautiful and sweet screaming grandchildren) can be annoying and painful. Well, the cherubs can be annoying and painful even when they don’t scream.

I recommend a good pair of over-the-ear noise cancellation headphones. I’m a fan of the Bose headphones, but there are many good choices to pick from.

It almost eliminates the engine noise and, as a bonus, I get to listen to music or watch a movie on my iPad without the volume being cranked up to 11.

There is one downside. At the end of flight, my arm is sore. That’s because Ms. Wolf has to punch me so I know she wants to talk to me.

Same happened to me in a beach locker room long ago.. I started my response (while pulling my tight dripping wetsuit off my bare body) politely, but when the rude idiot kept haranguing I changed my posture (jumped up onto the wood bench fully naked) and attitude (went full demonic cursing spell yeller) to cheers from much of the locker room. The poor idiot was actually terrorized, shut up, and fled. It was cruel on my part, but he was definitely asking for it….

Anyone can pull off a naked cursing spell yeller, but a naked full demonic cursing spell yeller?

Damn impressive!

It was a competitive game taught me and sibs by a mischievous aunt — but a clothed version. She was teaching us about religion…. Nakedness made it even more fun.

That’s what happens when I introduce myself as El Demonio in a low gravelly voice.

…and, of course, the ironies run deep as I am in fact a “practicing Christian”, but, oh, never mind….

I have tinnitus, too, and find it more interesting and informative than much of what I hear.
