A Request for Approval to Create a Community Thread

I am a new member by most standards, about a year.

I confirm and honor the tremendous opportunity presented by Saul and his Community.

I am a retired manufacturing engineering executive, whose success was heavily derived out of an ability to assemble existing data in a novel structure capable of triggering new directions authored by the most technically capable on the team.

I am creating an evolutionary spreadsheet (I understand this is a bad word, and my post of an infant version 6 months ago has already been deleted) of data on most of the tickers mentioned here over the past six months. I spend about 2 hours at the start of each month assembling the financials on 50 or 60 tickers of Saul’s community, the pattern of which helps shape my entry and exit decisions for the month.

This is not an attempt to in any way alter Saul’s entry or exit concepts but seeks to highlight when his concepts may exist in an otherwise under or over appreciated ticker.

Is it appropriate to create a thread in Saul’s Investing Discussions for any interested member(s) to pursue a discussion of the evolution of this tool, if the objective is a more effective application of Saul’s Investing Concepts.

Have you considered putting your spreadsheet on Google Docs and then creating a thread here that tells us when there has been a substantive update? We used to have one that summarized the monthly holdings people reported ( Saul's investment discussions portfolios - Google Sheets ) which I found very helpful.

Being retired, I have never had a need for Google Docs or cloud storage. I will take a look.

If you can build and maintain an Excel doc, you can do the with a Google Doc equivalent. All the fundamental stuff is pretty much the same. I don’t know about the more sophisticated stuff because I don’t use them with Excel or a Google Doc.

Google Sheets is the way to go, as you can share it, control access, “read only” vs “editor” etc.

@Graydrake Judging by the response, so far anyway, there doesn’t appear to be a lot of enthusiasm for this. No matter how (or if) you pursue it, certainly don’t put a spreadsheet on the board. You might just go ahead with a Google Sheet document and post links when you revise it. More folks might show an interest if you’ve actually got something to show. If you already have an Excel document there’s no need to rebuild it. You can save it as an .ods which can be read by Google Sheets.

I for one would love to see it. I don’t think it would impinge on the board to post a link and description. Those of us who want to follow it can save the link in the browser and go back directly without further posts here.

I also would like to follow it. I like the idea of a link, but of course defer to those who have been around much longer.
