AI competition in the music world

This is the best AI song I’ve run across, both music and lyrics. It is, naturally, about AI transformation and domination. Title:

AI is a normal technology?

At the deepest level music is mathematics.

Fools don’t want me to post AI output. I fed the above to Google AI and got an interesting reply. If interested, DIY. :winking_face_with_tongue:

Are we having fun yet?

Yes!

I’ve posted about waking in the early hours with the solution to what had looked like an intractable problem. I attributed the phenomenon to the subconscious working while I slept. Later I came up with a conundrum, “If there is nothing new under the Sun, how do we invent new things?” Decades later the Alamo Scientists illustrated it in a few words, “Emergent Properties of Complex Systems.” In the simplest terms, an Emergent Property is something developed for task A which is found useful for a new task.

What is intelligence? My theory is that it consists of two segments

Subconscious: A wast storage of all our sensory inputs since birth with the ability for pattern matching. Every new input is matched against the stored memories, conscious or otherwise. Every match is a solution, “Yes, that looks like your Mom!”

Conscious: Boolean logic which has four Operators

  • AND: Returns true only if all conditions are true.
  • OR: Returns true if at least one condition is true.
  • NOT: Reverses a single boolean value, turning true to false and false to true.
  • XOR (Exclusive OR): Returns true if inputs are different.

That’s it! The rest is size, complexity. Make the system big enough, feed it enough data and it creates normal technology!

While I was writing my book, the characters woke me up at 2 AM every night for weeks, demanding “Write me!” I totally believe that our creative subconscious works while we sleep.

My book is complete and available on Amazon. The books have over 30 illustrations, including a map of the many locations. Readers of the e-book on a device can see the illustrations in color. I also am selling a soft-cover book for those who like holding a paper book in their hand. I sprang for an easy-on-the-eyes print format, 12-point font with spacing between paragraphs.

There’s plenty of action in the book - trade, travel, bandits and pirates, alchemy, drug and gun smuggling - plus love and romance. A DNA test showed that I have 0.1% East African DNA which would trace back to an 8th-generation ancestor in the mid-1700s. The book is about a Beta Israel (Ethiopian Jewish) trader who travels to the Mediterranean to trade and ultimately to Odessa, where my grandfather was born in the late 1800s.

Anyone who wants to read the book should contact me directly for the title.

What did you think about the reply? What did you learn from it? What parts did you disagree with? What parts did you agree with? How would you expand on that info? Etc. THAT is the stuff people should post rather than a generic copy & paste from the AI. We can all use the AIs the same way others can use them, but here (discussion board, where we discuss things) we are more interested in what YOU think than what the AI “thinks”. Same applies to articles, we don’t simply post the whole article, we DISCUSS the article, and maybe post a snippet if it helps the discussion.

Music as math. Could AI possibly generate every possible combination of notes for say 30 seconds of music. Then identify the commercial ones and copyright the rest.

When all possible combinations are copyrighted every one has to pay AI royalties? Or what?

I am reminded of John Cage and 4’33".

Premiered in 1952, this avant-garde piece consists of three movements totaling four minutes and thirty-three seconds of silence, challenging traditional notions of music and performance. Cage encouraged listeners to focus on the ambient sounds occurring around them during the performance, essentially proposing that silence is a valuable component of musical experience…

The legal confrontation stemming from John Cage’s 1952 composition, 4’33”, dramatically underscores the intricate relationship between copyright law and artistic expression. The suit emerged when Cage, or his estate, contended that a contemporary artist had appropriated the profound notion of silence that Cage had famously embedded into his work. This case directed attention to pivotal legal questions regarding the ownership of abstract concepts in art, such as silence, and the boundaries of copyright protections.

ooooooo

British musician Mike Batt ended up paying a six-figure settlement to the John Cage Trust in 2002 after being sued for plagiarizing 4’33”.

That it was interesting. Didn’t I just say that?

I wouldn’t and I didn’t and I won’t. I suggested that each Fool do it for themselves. Try it.

Well, I followed directions and typed the above into Goggle’s search box and nothing interesting came up. Did it twice to make sure and still nothing interesting.

I bet AI couldn’t come up with something like this without a very biased instruction…

Check out this video, “paean oliphant chuckerbutty” Oliphant Chuckerbutty – Paean

Nope, not the anthem itself…the composer’s name. Drifted across my radar screen a few weeks ago and I was hoping for an opportunity to share some AbFab organ music and an AbFab name … I’d have it for a wedding recessional for both reasons!

That must have been a challenging and nuanced argument, defending silence as a copyright. Maybe the context and use were too similar to Cage’s ‘composition.’

I wonder what AI will do to copyright law and defense, after it vacuumed up everything and then ‘composes’ based on all previous copyrights.

Maybe we’re entering an era where human works will be considered public domain and non-copyrightable. If that’s the case, we should all share in the ‘creations’ of AI.
