Amazon lists have been broken for years, and seems to have something to do with how many items are on the list. I’ve been adding items to my default list for years, and I’m sure I have added well over 1000. (Don’t judge me!). I can find no way to determine how many items are actually on a list, nor what the maximum is.
But now, adding new items seems to do nothing (though it will tell me that “item was already in the list and has been moved to the top”), and a search of the list returns nonsense results much of the time. I searched on “pumpkin” below and it returns a slew if items that have nothing at all matching “pumpkin”.
Ok, I tried my other much shorter lists and they all work as expected: searching works fine.
So, I played some more with my biggest list and discovered that if I change the sort order to “Custom”, the items I thought weren’t being added (despite being told that they were already there and “moved to the top”) were now showing up! And then I saw that the original add date was unchanged and in most cases, quite old. So, when the default sort order of “By date added” is used, they don’t show up near the top!
So that’s progress. But searching my very long list is still broken, never telling me that a search string doesn’t find anything.
Conclusion: the large size of my list is the source of the problem.
Still can’t determine what the max list length is, nor how many items are on my lists, but I submitted a request to download all my data in Amazon and am waiting for the results. Hopefully I’ll be able to see all my lists and all their items.
I’m still waiting for my data dump from Amazon. Hope it has all my lists included.
But it’s completely amateur hour to have a list limit simply fail to work correctly and not even show a message when the list limit is reached. And “failing to sort” is equally disgraceful. Extremely simple coding is involved. It’s totally idiotic for this to still be in place and not be fixed!
Just getting around to this – I have 5 or 6 lists. None with even 50 items. So none of the problems mentioned. For me lists are things I have never ordered - just might want stuff or items for a project I will do with a month or so – kind of a project shopping list.
But I do have thousands of items in my past orders list. Amazon flys through my order history with ease. I just checked an Amazon has truncated my purchase history at 2005.
I also have too many to count. But my order history goes back to April 30, 1999, though strangely, all the orders from that year say "Delayed, not yet shipped".
And even curiouser, when I check years before 1999, they all show some problem, and clicking order details display recent orders instead:
