Analyst Sentiment and Target Prices

Fairly new to TMF and investing in stocks. In my fidelity brokerage account I can see “analyst sentiment” and “target prices” from those same analysts with an aggregate “bullish / bearish” when I research an equity. I’m starting to think these are not very useful. Yahoo finance does a similar thing. Do you guys place any credence in these metrics when choosing to buy / sell / hold stocks?

I use my own method to pick stocks and routinely find the ones i like recommended. But they also recommend stocks i rate as dogs.

This was a scandle a few years a go when analysts admitted recommending stocks that were major clients of their firm regardless of investment quality.

Analysts can easily feed on readers when major clients want to sell a stock they expect to weaken. I recall discussions of high yielding phone booth stocks in the early days of cell phone. Phone booth owners were packaging them for sale to retirees seeking income.

Caveat emptor still applies.
