In 2022, gasoline was $5. If I remember correctly, it was $5 in 2008.

The average price of gasoline in August 2022 was $3.98, which adjusted for inflation is $4.49 (don’t know about daily prices).
And in August 2011 it was $3.64 which is the same as $5.37
And in August 2008 it was $3.78 which is the same as $5.76

The most I’ve ever payed was $3.85 this summer. DW has learned how to “game” Kroger Fuel points so there has been a few times of $0.60. One time could’ve paid $0.01 but why be greedy?

In August 2022 gas prices retreated from record-high peak earlier in the summer and the last week of August AAA reported the average daily price of gas between $3.93 and $3.80.
I was lazy last week, my son wanted to borrow my F150, so instead of heading 10 miles up the road to Costco, I just went to the local Chevron, 87 octane, $5.599 per gallon. I didn’t fill but washed the windshield, by the time I stopped it it was $85… And only half a tank… Wellcome to Northern California!

If you grew up in Southern California in the 60s you’d appreciate California’s cleaner gas refinery. California’s cleaner gas has reduced emissions of excess toxins by 70%.

35 cents cleaner gas
65 cents state tax
18 cents Federal excise tax
Underground Storage Tank Fee and random local taxs add another 30 cents

Nice, funny comparison, my daughter’s in-laws moved to Carson City a few years back to duck as far as our CA taxes, and it’s worked well for them, but I do fill up when we leave for home, here in Sonoma County, just because, I don’t chase down the Costco there either, convenience/access is more important, or we might stop near Sacramento, nothing written in stone.. For as little gas that we use, we just pay, will do Costco if there shopping, but the RAV4 Hybrid doesn’t use enough to make any big difference. The F150’s 38 gallon tank, however does get your attention if I let it get below a 1/4 tank… But it sets 90+% of the time, lately, to where I had to add a solar panel to keep its battery up!
Changing times, we’ve surveyed other messes. we’ll get past this, too…
I do recall gas stain price wars of the '50’s, Under 25 cents a gallon! But I’m old, i guess…

But inflation-adjusted matters. The median income in Cupertino was not $237k in 2008, 2011, or 2022.
On the flip side, you ain’t seen the highs yet in gasoline prices, not by a long shot.
