Polls show a majority of the public is against the punishment of companies for speaking out: In a recent poll by Reuters and Ipsos, however, 62 percent of Americans said they were less likely to support a candidate who supports the idea of punishing a company over differing political stances.
Among the 62 percent of Americans, 68 percent were Democrats and 55 percent were Republicans.

What “Americans” say is irrelevant. DeSantis is pandering to a segment of the population in Florida. Not unique. Polls of all Americans have shown a consistent, significant, majority in favor of a particular policy, but several states are enacting laws that seek to overturn or ignore the policy that a majority of people favor.
