I have been bullish for the last few year on banks and regional banks. Even though I failed to invest accordingly ![]()
Now, the yield curve is steepening. We all know Trump’s obsession with Fed fund rate and whoever is going to be nominated has to bend to the throne’s diktat and will cut rates. However, the market is going to setup long-term rates. This will create a scenario where curve will be steep. Steep curve is beneficial to the banks. They essentially borrow short-term and lend long-term. This will drive their profits. Also, deal making (M&A), and relaxed regulator environment will bring down both their cost of compliance and capital needs, thus releasing more capital for buyback.
Long banks, regional banks is the right trade for 2026. Every dip is a buyable opportunity, especially for the TBTF banks.
