Blood tests for cancer and Alzheimer's Disease

VeeEnn,

The truth of the matter I can not argue what mankind does not know.

Profound words.

However, how do you/does one know what mankind does not know? Iā€™ve found that trying to keep up with what is known (by people who have good reason to know) ā€¦ even in a relatively limited field and one that Iā€™m interested in such that I apply a fair amount of time and effort to try doing just that (cardiovascular pathophysiology, for but one example) ā€¦ leaves me way behind. Wouldnā€™t a person only know something had been unknown (either to themselves or Mankind) after it becomes known?

My personal quote on the old TMF profile page was ā€œThe more I learn, the less I seem knowā€. For good reason.

So this very morning an example of Life imitating TMF cropped up. Sat down to breakfast with dh after my session of Z2/MAF/ ASCVD mitigation training plus some flexibility, stability and muscle hypertrophy work and he came up with a ā€œdid you knowā€¦ā€ and I didnā€™t. Specifically heā€™d been listening to Gardenerā€™s Question Time BBC Radio 4 and a topic on tomatoes came up. I hadnā€™t known that putting a banana peel in a paper bag with a green tomato helped it ripen.

So I countered with ā€œDo you knowā€¦ā€ and it was concerning that pan species consistency with longevity and XX chromosomes in mammals mentioned in the thread on Menā€™s Health Crisis and that the opposite (and different nomenclature with birds). He did not.

I started thinking some more and got to wondering about non human primates and ASCVD as itā€™s not a common feature in companion animals. Now I know that they do develop it in captivityā€¦my daughter works with the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and the Great Ape projectā€¦but wondered if the mechanism was similar. In my meandering this far, I stumbled across this article. I actually DID know the bulk of this ā€¦ why I specifically requested an Lp (a) and Apo-b lipoprotein test last year (albeit a late-to-the-party insight :face_with_diagonal_mouth:) and why Iā€™m as confident as needs be that my ASCVD is a manifestation of genetic polymorphisms inherited from my mum as opposed to a maybe future discovery thus far unknown to Mankind.

Here you go. Not the sort of information that cholesterol denialists tend to discuss (ā€¦or know about??)
