The power to tax is the power to destroy!

Says the guy posting on the internet, which likely wouldn’t exist without the government’s power to tax.

Let’s eliminate the weasel word “likely” from that sentence.

Governments must tax in order to exist.

The problem comes when the government starts deciding WHICH sentences are taxed at what rate.

And yes, the power to tax IS the power to destroy*!*

If you and I have opposing websites on this issue and the government decides to tax your website at a higher rate than mine guess which website has a better chance of survival?

You’re moving from one topic, the power to tax, to another topic, tax regulations.

I agree that there are many tax regulations that are unfair.

I worked in Corporate Tax for a Fortune 500 company a few lifetimes ago doing research. I can’t count (hmmmm, a tax guy who can’t count?) the number of times I saw things in the tax code like “corporations established on March 13, 1931 in St. Louis, Missouri are exempt from this provision”.

Sigh.
