The issue is that it has gotten very expensive to process the Alberta oil sand. So, the Alberta “dirty” crude, which itself is cheap and everyone was pushing to pump through the XL Pipeline, now costs too much refine: Canadian heavy crude prices have collapsed as the European war upends global market flows and makes oil sands crude less valuable.
