The power of a dictatorship.
Norway incentivized building of charging stations, subsidized landlords for installing them, and otherwise encouraged EV initiatives to the point where 90% of new car sales are EVs now.
They have tens of thousands of charging stations in a small country, FWIW.
And it’s not a dictatorship, to my knowledge. It is, apparently, an enlightened democracy, turning its oil wealth into a sovereign fund to keep its society and industry functioning during a time of rapid change.
Norway’s Sovereign Wealth Fund, formally the Government Pension Fund Global (GPFG), is the world’s largest, managing petroleum revenues to secure long-term benefits for future generations, investing globally in stocks, bonds, real estate, and infrastructure, and adhering to strict ethical guidelines to support Norway’s budget for public services like healthcare and education.
We, on the other hand, are going in deficit to create a new police force with a budget larger than the FBI and CIA combined (oh, and the DEA, ATF, and Bureau of Prisons + US Marshals too) in order to chase down Roberto, who is doing a landscaping job that no US citizen wants to do anyway.
Oh. And proposing to increase the Pentagon budget by 50%, because “Peace.”
So … different approach.
