Chinese just made Starlink obsolete

Let’s say their internet product was 75% cheaper, Just as reliable, 75% faster, and the latency was around 30 ms. Would you subscribe to it?

What is a practical solution for US citizens is very different from the rest of the world. If you are living in Asia or Africa, or latin america will you is the question?

You might want to think about that a bit. Starlink has a lot of satellites in orbit and an unprecedented tech for putting up more. The Chinese are showing some promise, but we are talking a staggering difference in installed base and delivery capability.

It is different technology and the way they are deployed. My response was that Dish has now been disrupted also. Some people think that a technology will go on forever. At it’s peak Dish had 14 million subscribers, Now they have around 5.69 subscribers, but that was television.

Starlink right now only has 6 million subscribers but that is internet. Right now I can get Verizon internet 5G for around 35 dollars, about the same speed as Starlink and the same latency. Verizon has 4.8 million subscribers for it’s 5G.

Different product. If you have good 5G coverage you don’t need Starlink. But lots of places don’t have good 5G coverage or otherwise don’t have good Internet access. Airplanes for example.

They compete though. Alot of people can’t afford Starlink in areas that are not covered by Cellular.

We ran fiber up to a lot of mountain tops to hand it over to an internet company that provided Airlines with internet. You might have heard of them GOGO? But a lot of companies provide service and compete for that business.

I guess they don’t get Internet then.

Yep. And Starlink is way better than Gogo. Much faster, lower latency, etc.

I agree. That is another business model that was disrupted. Which is what we are talking about on this string. If you look at GOGO, they were not in business that long either. But GOGO powered all their mountain top sites with t1’s, They should have ran fiber.
