Cognex future

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/robotics-e-commerce-2-hot-130…

the logistics business is “about 10% of our business currently, and it’s growing well in excess of 50% this year, and 50% is the growth rate at which we can think we can grow it over the long term.”
Willet sees “retail and e-commerce fulfilment” as the biggest part of Cognex’s logistics revenue. In case you are wondering how Cognex’s machine vision solutions work in these markets, consider the need companies have to scan, detect, and monitor packages for shipping e-commerce orders.

so Cognex has the inevitable growth of e commerce as wind behind it’s sails too.
50% compounded works wonders in a few years

not mentioned there but to me the other big growth area for Cognex may be the combination of 3D machine vision with AI. Most of what they do now is simpler 2D vision. The world is 3D .

I have been following Cognex also. I believe Stock Advisor recommended it and I purchased in July 2013, and it is up 338% since then. There main business is factory automation, but with AI coming on line, self driving cars etc, you have to believe their business of providing high tolerance vision equipment is going to soar.

I also invested in this company almost 3 years back when in the high 30’s but held on when they started doing work in the warehouse and vision space. Now its has paid off. The yahoo article is very interesting though the only issue I see is that they dont have a lot of recurring revenue so at some point Capex will slow done and sensing that would be almost critical to know when the next plateau starts happening.

I am sure hopefully by then they would have got into the next growth area …can we be twice lucky…

Hi Rajesh - so what is the next growth area? I didn’t get the memo.
Thanks

Above is the link to the article. I am not sure what would be the next big one but form the looks of it logistics looks good but then again it could be even Agri where fruit picking etc happens manually in most Latam and Asian countries…

The way I see it (no pun intended) the factory automation and vision go hand in hand. As more and more products become extremely high tolerance, you have to move from human physical inspection to machine vision. In addition, artificial vision can be used in things like inspecting pipelines, and refineries where artificial can include spectrum not seen by the human eye.

I don’t expect software type growth from this company, but do expect it to grow and be extremely profitable. I look at it as a good growth company outside of software so it adds some balance to my portfolio.

The Motley Fools recommendation was lower than even mentioned here. I would have to go back to look at when but my buy price is $14 and change and definitely bought after it was recommended. It started as a very small slice of my portfolio but is in my top 10 now.

And to be honest it has seemed overvalued for quite a while now.
