compare: VALU

For the last 20 years I have been concerned that Value Line may not continue; one day I may be right.

This was a concern 10 years ago. Surprised to see Price Performance (52 Wk) 125% and also a lot more Employees (Full Time) than expected(166). Not much Institutional Ownership (7.7%).

Yes, it has always seemed to be a badly run company.
It’s just as well that there is no Value Line report on Value Line.

They keep getting worse.
Vast data errors more and more regularly, which they don’t fix, just go on to release the next data set.
It seems they have mostly stopped issuing “alerts” to update earnings forecasts etc in reaction to big breaking news or earnings releases.
I haven’t seen one in a long time on any stock I’ve looked up, admittedly a small set.

But, I did a vote of confidence and renewed for a multi-year period a while back to get the discount.
I think they will muddle through. Probably.
Rather surprisingly, their earnings are up quite a bit in the last 2-3 of years.
Maybe that’s what happens–for a while–when you fire all your programmers.

I see that VALU was a pick on the LowPS+ screen in January…

Looking at the VALU numbers, I wonder how they can survive with only about $250K of revenue per employee. And with EPS of $2.74 on 9.5 million shares, it looks like they’re earning about $26M on revenue of $40M. Doesn’t quite add up.

Having fired all their programmers once, maybe their tech department is now just one overweight guy living in his Mom’s basement?

$250k per employee should be fine for a technology company
