Today, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission approved the Tennessee Valley Authority’s construction permit application for its planned GE Vernova Hitachi BWRX-300 at the Clinch River site in Oak Ridge, Tenn.

The Canadians are already building a BWRX-300 at the Darlington site near Toronto. This reactor type is a simplified boiling water reactor with passive safety. I really like the isolation condenser system to remove decay heat using natural convective circulation. Earlier GE BWRs had a similar system.
Apparently, TVA has not yet announced when construction will actually start. Commercial operation is expected early next decade.
