So… as renters move from nice, large apartments to stinky, small ones because their former rent went up a LOT, the CPI captures the lesser rent increase as they move to the lousy one?

Moving from eating steak to hamburger to beans… is just an adjustment in eating patterns instead of looking for something affordable? “Hey! Food costs are down!”… neglecting to mention the reduction forced by prices.

Hmmm…

Isn’t that how capitalism works. If you can’t afford it you buy what you can and eventually when less and less people are buying it the price will decrease.

Going from 2 years to 1 year is why the system hickuped. The lower prices in January 2021 were not factored into any averages.

Potentially a nice thought. Not sure that it always plays out that way.
