Counting at the Pentagon

The Pentagon is known for being unable to keep track of things such as money and inventory. But troops?

I know, counting is hard. 900, 2000??? All part of the myth of government inefficiency.

More Than Twice as Many US Troops Are in Syria as Previously Disclosed

Interestingly, I have still seen nothing on the TV “news” about the Turkish troop buildup on the Syrian border. Not from CBS, nor the BBC. Probably trying to keep it quiet, until TFG is in office and orders their withdrawal. Don’t want the invasion of Syria to look pre-meditated. Make the invasion look like an impulsive act after the US troops are withdrawn?

The Main Stream Media has their marching orders.
“Nothing to see here. Move along people.”

Dude, that post read like Dividend wrote it. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

The pentagon stated, in your article and others, that they increased troops after the fall of Assad. This wasn’t a case of miscounting or losing troops.

The report said the US notified the Revolutionary Commando Army (RCA), a US-funded militia based out of a US base at Al Tanf in southern Syria, to “be ready” for an attack that could lead to the end of Assad’s rule.

“They did not tell us how it would happen,” Bashar al-Mashadani, an RCA commander, told The Telegraph. “We were just told: ‘Everything is about to change. This is your moment. Either Assad will fall, or you will fall.’ But they did not say when or where, they just told us to be ready.”

In October, the US brought several other Sunni Muslim militias under the command of the RCA, swelling the force from 800 fighters to about 3,000. All of the fighters are armed by the US, and the US pays their salaries of $400 per month. The US also backs the Kurdish-led SDF in eastern Syria, but the RCA is a separate force.

Yet we continue to engage in such activity. Though no mention of Blinken statement in main stream media.

Washington’s regime change efforts in the region over the past two decades have basically been failures.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken publicly admitted Wednesday that his country’s efforts spanning the last 20 years to seek regime change in Iran did not yield much success.

“I think if we look at the last 20 years, our experiments in regime change have not exactly been resounding successes,” Blinken, while attending a discussion session at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York, said in remarks that saw the audience erupt in laughter.

So, when TFG pulls all the US troops out, stops the militia’s pay, and cuts off their ammo supply, the militias will melt away. Who will fill the vacuum? That “very smart guy” in Ankara?

Steve

Thank you. I don’t alway read the NYT articles as I don’t have a subscription.

Is stating the obvious news? I thought it was a clear failure after about six months.

Then with respect, why would you post an article for which you added your own editorial comments without reading the article? How can you possibly know if your comments line up with the facts of story?

The US has said it has 2,500 troops in Iraq, but the Pentagon says the actual number is higher

I have no need to know I suppose.

On the wire this morning, Kurd militia has pushed back the Turkish supported militia.

Turkey not happy.

Or Turkey’s either methinks.

Is there such a thing as :“Kurdish militants” in Turkey?

Steve

The Kurds desire their own nation state.

If all the Kurd majority areas of Syria and Iraq, were folded into Turkey, they would still be a minority in Turkey.

Steve

The Pentagon failed its 7th straight audit.

She has a cush gig waiting for her, on the Board of a defense contractor. Her successor will have the same comfort awaiting their departure from government “service” too.
