Covid & college math

A couple young guys from Lowe’s were hooking up my new washer several years ago. The guy could not understand why he could not get the water hose on. I said “righty tighty, lefty loosey”, and he twigged.

Sold a star wrench to a coworker around 91. He immediately went to work on his wheels. He started spinning the wrench and was shocked that the nut was loose. He kept spinning and spinning the wrench. He was horrified how loose the nut had been. I said “maybe it’s a right hand thread”.

The point being, people are no more ignorant of basic things than they were 20-30 years ago, but the media needs to stoke hysteria about something.

I put my check book register on EXCEL for last 20 years. No more arithmetic problems.

Me too!! But you still have to know how. And be able to spot and find an error.

Those who use a debit card multiple times per day probably rely on bank numbers and do not check them–Excel or otherwise!!

A friend of my mom’s never balanced her checkbook. She would get it so fouled up that she would open up a new account, at another bank, and wait for the first bank to figure out whether she had a balance in the account, or needed to add money. And that was over 50 years ago.
