In Shiny-land, many companies use their employees as hostages, leveraging the threat of lost “jobs” to extract handouts and protection from the government.
GM announced several hundred more people will be laid off from their engineering center in Warren (metro Detroit) today. The thought in the back of my mind is GM is planning on their work being done in China, because Chinese engineers are cheaper. Strabismus has already laid off hundreds of engineers in Auburn Hills (also metro Detroit), while the CEO openly says they will be replaced by engineers in Morocco, because they are cheaper. Both GM and Strabismus predecessor FCA, received government handouts and protection to “save jobs”.
