Evening all!
I was briefly perusing the board here today and the discussions about newbies and advice, etc. Saul has clarified what he wants this board to concentrate on and I really can’t imagine what other advice a newbie would need other than to read and study the “knowledge base”…its all already there…just read it a few times and you get a few decades of experience in a fraction of the time and with far fewer hard knocks in your investment life.
I have mentioned the “crowdsourcing” phenomenon on stocks that Saul and your contributors perform here every day using the platform that the FOOL has provided for us all. This crowdsourcing is where the power in investing truly lies. So for every “newbie” out there…get to work and be part of the crowd, spend some time and sweat equity for the betterment of this community through your own reporting and analysis.
You may be surprised to learn that you do not have to be right all the time (in fact more is learned from being wrong than right)…that is part of the process, to sharpen everyone’s thought process and consider bear and bull arguments. Nothing has been more valuable to me than to throw ideas out to the likes of Tinker, Denny, Mauser, Ant, etc and let the games begin. Their passion and willingness to spend their time destroying my investment thesis :)…has yielded valuable perspective on numerous investments over the past 15 years…I like to think this has been beneficial to all parties but most certainly to me.
Lest any of you doubt the POWER of crowdsourcing, I refer you to this WallStreet Journal piece proving that it beats analysts performance hands down:

An even better study is the real world experience here at Saul’s place…look at your returns.
But these results are ONLY as good as those who put in the sweat equity…the crowdsourced equity. Fortunately, you have a number of quality posters here. But for all you more quiet folks…get to work! That is the value of crowdsourcing…put some of your own work in…that is the power of crowdsourcing investments!
If you give as much as you take…the rewards are everlasting to all concerned, perhaps even more to you as an individual. Give it a try!
Best:
