The Food and Drug Administration provided updated guidance for COVID-19 vaccine makers, calling for them to formulate a shot that better targets more recent strains of the virus. The new shot is expected to be available this fall.
The FDA said on Thursday that fall 2024 COVID-19 vaccines should target the KP.2 variant of the virus, which is a descendant of the JN.1 variant that widely circulated throughout the U.S. during the winter. FDA advisers previously recommended a shot that simply targeted the JN.1 variant instead of newer strains of the virus.
So, just how dangerous is this or these new strains? I see and hear of no data. They never say. And why did they change their minds on this vaccine? I mean, how much money and to whom.
According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention dataâŚ22% of adults in he U.S. got a COVID-19 shot for the 2023-24 season.
And how bad was the season when, almost nobody got a vaccine? I donât remember hearing anything. 22% is barely enough to move the numbers appreciably even in a bad season.
Everyone age 5 years and older should get an updated COVID-19 vaccine to protect against serious illness, the CDC recommends.
âShouldâ? Based on what? "protect against serious illness? Define âseriousâ? Has Covid ever been serious to anybody near age 5? Iâm surprised they didnât further weasel-word their recommendation with âhelp protectâ instead of just âprotect.â
In recent years, updated COVID-19 vaccines have become widely available in early autumn. And virtually nobody gets them but somehow things keep getting better.
Where Iâm at: I have gotten every covid shot theyâve had that I was made aware of. But this kind of ⌠I donât know if itâs the science or the reporting⌠(almost certainly both) is one reason why so many people feel they are being constantly hornswoggled and B.Sâed by âTHEM!â. And we know what thatâs led us to.
The EU recommendation is for 60 and older (and those with âunderlying medical conditionsâ.

You seem confused. The link has two announcements, one from the FDA and one from the CDC. The FDA directive was to vaccine makers. It said that they should make the upcoming vaccine (2024-2025) effective for the newest Covid variants. Apparently the newest variants spreaded faster than expected.
Seems pretty reasonable to me.
That announcement was to vaccine takers. Since Covid is generally considered to be at least as severe and contagious as the flu and since the CDC always recommends that everyone should get a flu shot it would be very odd for them not to recommend a Covid vaccine.
Why the dramatics?
