Might be a hitch in the plan to see Americans making T-shirts again.
Many Americans aren’t interested in factory jobs because they often do not pay enough to lure workers away from service jobs that may have more flexible schedules or more comfortable working environments.
For some companies, remaining globally competitive involves the use of sophisticated equipment that requires employees to have extensive training and familiarity with software. And employers cannot simply hire people right out of high school without providing specialized training programs to bring them up to speed. That wasn’t the case in the heyday of American manufacturing.
I think this is one result of declining birth rates. In the day of the horse farm families often had five or six kids to help with the work. They are taught their value depends on their ability to get the job done.
Manufacturers love to hire them. But declining birth rates after abt 1960 changed it all. Mechanization means farm families are much smaller. And urban kids are much less interested in hard work.
Ahh, those were the days… well, there were jut 4 of us, I was the youngest, sister the oldest, however my elder brothers really did not care for the seasonal busy work, pruning, hoeing weeds, picking, so at the earliest chance the could, left the farm, joined the Navy, Army, get outta there! Me, I was too young, so we’d moved into town in my teen years, total different game… But, the farm relied on help, Braceros, a program in the '40-'50s to allow Mexican helpers in, they’d often camp on the farm, I played with heir kids if there were any, wished later I’d learned to speak their language, but they were just good hard working people, some very skilled, and made decent money for the day… I think many stayed, raised the families here, maybe even became citizens… So I’m kinda ticked at this recent racist garbage going on, masked, unidentified ICE, maybe, maybe just thugs? Kidnapping, they should be the ones being jailed…
But, this is Norcal, putting up with he daily garbage on the news… Sickening…
