Now that we know the Ford Fathom electric truck will be just a few thousand dollars more than the bare-bones Slate, is the writing already on the wall?
In other words: did Ford’s Fathom just kill the Slate before it arrived?

I don’t think so. Different products. The Slate is basic, no frills, fix it yourself. The Ford is a Ford, take it to the dealer, who will send you coupons for oil changes.
In any case, will you really be able to buy a Fathom at the advertised low price? Ford will only make a token amount of the lower priced versions and dealers will mark em up if they can.
Disclosure - I’ve had a Slate on order since day 1. Delivery Jan 2027.

Since the Fathom hasn’t arrived, you can’t buy one, and you can’t even pre-order one, I’d say reports of the death of Slate has been exaggerated.
