Feeling the RIF pain without social support

Some one on another thread asked if RIFfed Federal workers who are being rehired will ever trust the job again.

Will these RIFfed workers ever trust their family and friends again?

{ Thrust into unemployment, axed federal workers face relatives who celebrate their firing.

… some laid-off federal workers are running into another unexpected unpleasantry: Relatives cheering their firing. …}

And friends, too.

There are family members I will not spend any time with because of their racist beliefs. I do not need them in my life.

You can’t fix stupid… especially emotionally stupid…even if its your extended “family”.

I am not big on sympathizing with them.

I know too many state of CT retirees collecting pensions who want tax cuts.

The state works and federal workers are well paid. The common self serving is shameful.

That said they never should have been laidoff or fired. Maybe the tax cut backers will grow up.

So I have some relatives who fit the mold.

He was employed by a government entity, blue collar job, union, good pay. Was an alcoholic, treatment provided by benefits, he licked it but went out on disability, benefits paid by government.

She is what doctors would call “morbidly obese”, can’t stand for more than a few minutes, applied for SS disability. Used to have a job at a day-care facility, quit because “it made her tired.” Eventually got disability.

The son had a mental breakdown after Covid, breakup of a relationship, applied for SS disability. Eventually got it.

All three receiving government checks. All three are self-described “libertarians”, wish the government would go away.

The cognitive dissonance is louder than standing directly under a SpaceX launch platform as the countdown passes zero.

They run a “family” farm. Government programs buy equipment, build storage and other infrastructure, guarantee prices for crops, etc. Their children are following the family tradition.

They got married, both then enlisted, “got injured”, got “service connected”… And at least one of their spawn is following the family “military service plan” tradition.

Libertarian, gun owners, n wish government would go away.
