Ford Rediscovered the Small Pickup-Like Lemmings Other Automakers Pile In

In 2021 Ford rediscovered the small pickup [Ford Maverick]. Or should I say smallish pickup as it was the size of a 1990’s pickup. It was offered with IC & Hybrid models. it was offered at $25k price for a stripped down model. They flew off the shelf. And now the base model is $30k.

Other automakers noticed and jumped in.
2024-BYD Shark PHEV made in Mexico.-$50k
2024-Telo EV pickup on the drawing board-$35k
2025-Slate stripped EV pickup on the drawing board-$27.5
China market:
2025-Nissan stripped PHEV pickup on drawing board $16.6k

2025-BYD VERY stripped EV pickups on drawing board $7-$9.2k

I am flabbergasted at the price of all new vehicles.
As I view a vehicle similar to an appliance like a toaster; I will continue to replace existing transportation with used vehicles when needed. Let the original owner take the depreciation hit.

Actually, the Maverick started at $19,995, plus destination fee, so Farley has jumped the price 50% in 4 years, because that is the sort of ATP. and GP juicer he is.

Supposedly, Ford is coming out with a revival of the Ranchero, a small, sporty, pickup, for 2026. I’m sure Ford will present it as a “lifestyle” vehicle, and charge a lot for it.

Well that $20k figure included a federal government rebate/tax break. Them rebate/tax breaks may be going away.

A rebate going away in the future, did not push the price up over the last four years. If Maverick assembly, with it’s 60% Mexican content, stays in Mexico, the Maverick will cost as much as the bigger, stronger, Michigan built, Ranger.
