In Aug 2026, Frontline (FRO) announced the sale of two 2017-built VLCCs for a hefty gain. At the time, it was stated that the gain on the asset sale would be paid out in the form of a special div during Q3 2026. At the time, I assumed it would align closer to when the Q3 2026 payout occurred. This Press release adjusts the time-line.
As mentioned above, it seems like the payout is occurring in parallel with the Q2 2026 div payout. Does it matter? Yes, depending on how it is categorized, a special div MAY be taxed differently than a common payout. Then again, it also depends on the type of account one holds the FRO shares.
