Go After the Generals, too...

The US is in the process of imposing targeted economic sanctions against 300 members of the Russian Duma, the nation’s lower house of legislators. Unfortunately, economic sanctions tend to anger and inflame more than they actually change behaviors.

On the other hand, knowing one is facing trial for participating in war crimes against humanity may cause members of the military to seek a way to cease their war on women, children, old people, patients, and disabled civilians in Ukrainian cities.

The names of the generals must be identified and published around the world so they cannot hide from responsibility for committing war crimes on behalf of Vladimir Putin, the War Criminal-in Chief.

The prosecutor of the International Criminal Court has launched an immediate criminal investigation of possible war crimes in Ukraine. The prosecutor, Karim Khan, said late Wednesday that he would fast-track the investigation after receiving requests from 39 member countries, most of them European. Such a move is unprecedented at the court, where prosecutors typically wait months for approval from a panel of judges…

The traditional path for an International Criminal Court investigation involves sending teams to the locations of the alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity, interviewing witnesses and collecting documentary evidence. Ukraine is not a member of the International Criminal Court but granted it jurisdiction before the war. Investigations can take many months…

So far, there is no mention of the specific individuals who will be tried for the war crimes being documented. Obviously, Vladimir Putin will be charged. The names of the generals should be published immediately as targets of the investigation.

If Europe and the civilized nations are serious about ending Russia’s war against Ukraine’s civilians, they must drive a wedge between Putin and his generals on the battlefield. Already, it is reported that Russian soldiers are walking off the job in Ukraine. It’s time that Putin’s generals did the same.

The International Criminal Court needs to name the generals who are on the battlefield. Intelligence sources and the Russian soldiers can provide prosecutors with the names of the generals. The generals’ names should be published and announced as perpetrators of war crimes.

If necessary, soldiers can provide the names of some of their individual Russian soldier colleagues so that the International Criminal Court can put the fear of justice into the hearts of the generals and the pawns who are doing Putin’s bidding.

The only way to stop this targeting of hospitals, schools, children’s homes, asylums, and civilian shelters is to make it clear to every person involved in the chain of command that they will be facing Nuremberg trials of their own if they don’t lay down their arms and walk away from this unjust invasion.

Give them a date certain by which to stop and then initiate prosecution of generals and soldiers who fail to walk off the job.

Great idea! Until then, get good snipers and assassinate the generals.

Well … actually if you have a really incompetent general it is better to leave him in place screwing everything up? This is why the Brits cancelled an SOE plan to assassinate Hitler (Operation Foxley) when it was presented to them. Hitler thought he was a military genius, just about nobody else in the German military did but they didn’t have the guts to tell him so. He took credit for wins, but blamed losing on his generals and had some of them shot or ordered to commit suicide including Erwin Rommel (probably the best general in WWII including both sides).

Operation Foxley

During World War II, Operation Foxley was a 1944 plan to assassinate Adolf Hitler, conceived by the British Special Operations Executive (SOE). Although detailed preparations were made, no attempt was made to carry out the plan. Historians believe the most likely date for an attempt would have been 13–14 July 1944, during one of Hitler’s visits to the Berghof.

Ultimately a sniper attack was considered to be the method most likely to succeed. In Summer 1944, a German who had been part of Hitler’s personal guard at the Berghof had been taken prisoner in Normandy. He revealed that at the Berghof, Hitler always took a 20-minute morning walk at around the same time (after 10:00). Hitler liked to be left alone during this walk, leaving him unprotected near some woods, where he was out of sight of sentry posts. When Hitler was at the Berghof, a Nazi flag visible from a cafe in the nearby town was flown.

The proposal for the operation was submitted in November 1944, but was never authorised due to a division within the British government as to whether Hitler’s removal was a sound way to expedite victory. By then, he was considered by the British to be such a poor strategist that it was thought possible that candidates who would be in line to succeed him might present more of a challenge to the Allied war effort.

A group of snipers are ahead of the curve but I’m sure it is not what you mean.

Erwin Rommel (probably the best general in WWII including both sides).

Thought occurred to me that the major history changing battle that Rommel lost: The Allied victory at El Alamein lead to the retreat of the Afrika Korps and the German surrender in North Africa in May 1943. May 19, 2015

… was against Monty, probably the penultimate example of a Logistics General. He knew Rommel was short of fuel for his tanks (the Brits were reading his comms) and forced him to follow Monty’s moves north and south until he didn’t have enough fuel to defend or retreat with his tanks.

Incidentally, Rommel was strafed and wounded by two Canadian Spitfire pilots from #412 (RCAF) squadron in spite of claims by a couple of USAF P-47 pilots trying to grab the glory. The P-47 doesn’t look anything like a Spitfire.

Hitler ordered Rommel to shoot himself a few months later as he may have been implicated in the July 20th assassination plot. Alternative was to be hung from a meat hook as a traitor.

Did some drilling on “The Berghof”. Utterly fascinating reading about Hitler’s home away from home.

Spent a great percentage of his time there, both before and then during the war. It’s where early war planning was done. And where mistress Eva Braun spent almost all of her time. She attempted suicide at least twice there. Shot herself, survived. OD’ed on pills. Survived. Then wife-for-a-day in the bunker. Poisoned with her now husband. Didn’t survive.

Lots and lots of pictures. Maps.

Never before saw such info.

Tim,

Very interesting. So Putin de facto is being allowed by the west to live for now. Begs the question if he reaches for nukes will our side assassinate him? Possibly and we should not be surprised.

It might not be that the Russian generals are bad. It might be the Russian generals have no say.

Hitler left “The Berghof” in July of 1944 less than a week before the 20th July plot to blow him up in his command bunker. While they tried to hide it he was severely injured by the explosion. He became paranoid that people were trying to kill him (wonder why? and never went back.
