Remember “family” cars in the early 70s, that could barely top 10 miles per gallon? Remember when topping 20mpg was only accomplished by a compact, like a Ford Maverick? My VW station wagon, which is a far nicer car than a Maverick, easily tops 30mpg on the highway. My old Civic routinely ran 41-42mpg.
The BBB zeros out fines to automakers for exceeding fuel consumption standards. CAFE is now effectively dead, as it’s unenforceable.
All we need to happen now, is for the government to outlaw everything smaller than a 5,000lb SUV as “unsafe”, and big oil laffs all the way to the bank.
What irks me is I saw all this coming, the US being realigned for the benefit and profit of big oil, and established my positions months ago. So, now that everything is materializing as expected, my positions are under water.
