As a final addendum to my above post and this thread, I did learn one thing more about GoPro which sounded way cool of not enough to shift my investing mentality. Apparently if you put 2 GoPro’s back to front you get your 360 degree perspective. Even cooler than that if you put them side by side they can now deliver Super Hi Def 3D video.

anthonyms,
I know we differ in our opinion of buying/holding GPRO, but I strive to see the complete picture - thanks for continuing to share details of what you know. So, I’ll add to your last note. If you didn’t already realize, multiple GoPro camera’s are used to shoot a lot of the video’s you see on their channel, in order to get all the angles - multi-purchase product. Also, if you go to YouTube and search for their Adobe Creative Cloud Codec video, you’ll see that their cameras are utilized, along with others, in high-end commercial production. I had thought prior of it as just a consumer-level camera.

True cautiousone. Another fact I did learn about GPRO is that their broadcast content channel is really sticky - it has something like 25mins of average viewing time per user visit. That definitely gives it a plus on the engagement front.

anthonyms,
25 minutes is a lot of viewing time! It will be interesting to see how they incorporate ads into this timeframe. This morning, I watched a Yahoo Flickr Blog video (I hadn’t ever seen one prior, but found it in the “turnstile” of “news” in the image capsule on the Y! home page. Note, Y! owns Flickr.) and thought, “will this be how GoPro sells the monetized footage?” Flickr video lasted 3 minutes, Silverado truck ad was 15 seconds, forced with no “cut it short” option. Totally worth the wait, IMO. So, the question for me became, “what kind of revenue can this generate?” There have got to be case studies out there, who/what are they besides Flickr, which itsn’t similar enough, IMO? Also, I think the type of ad program will help determine how much money they can make. If it’s brand ads, like the Silverado one, they’ll generate more revenue. But, if it’s embedded or something like re-targeting, it’ll be the less profitable. I wonder if the 25 minutes, which feels more like TV watching, will enable them to interrupt programming for ads? That would be a much bigger revenue generator.
Something to think about and keep an eye out for.
