Well that horrible cruel decision is upon us. It does not have to be but as the US economy over the next 15 years gets much better…excluding what happens for the next 12 months…as they say don’t let any crisis go to waste.
We do hope Congress takes up the Social Security and Medicare issues after the 2026 election. No surprise they are reluctant to address the issues in an election year.
The usual method is to adopt a plan that takes effect years in the future—ideally after they are out of office. The 6 yr til funds run out leaves not much time.
The result is likely to be painful w increased payments and reduced benefits.
On Medicare it would be great if they can reduce healthcare inflation. We all enjoy quality healthcare and improved treatments. But medical inflation is so high it is not sustainable. It will bankrupt many and maybe govts.
Most ofvthe baby boom is retired. The xers are a smaller group. Millens and zs are large working age grouls. Medicare is affordable. Our politicians are unaffordable.
Here’s an idea: they could take the money they would spend on a war that nobody asked for and put it instead into Social Security checks.
They always manage to find extra money to fight a war why not find extra money to pay people what has been promised to them, and for which they have paid in their entire working lives?
We are creating a problem for China. Iran will charge them and the Indians for the oil and products coming out of the Strait.
Our petrochemical industry is more efficient at an advantage without such fees. We are retooling for another industrial revolution. Not based on steel and concrete, but on plastic and chemicals.
Meanwhile, we are a financial basket case. Will our markets fall apart or launch from here?
China can decide later if she wants to go to war. Brand new military why not?
Rising healthcare costs means Medicare cost is rising faster than Social Security inflation adjustment. Bottom line SS check is eaten by Medicare deduction.
This is a worrisome trend. Healthcare inflation must be addressed.
