Workers at the main Hyundai plant in Korea went on strike last week, both shifts, for one day. Production totally stopped.
Their main issue: raising the retirement age from 60 to 65. [Not a misprint]. They are concerned about economic security, and Korea has a mandatory 60-year-old retirement age for industrial workers. To change the rule would require new legislation, not something that Hyundai directly controls.
Workers also want larger bonuses and a few other issues, but “retirement age” is the biggie. Go figure.
