Has anyone had any luck installing the app that monitors a Generac generator?

Yes. No problem, except having to renew the password because they dumped everything in April.

I entered my email address then picked a password. Naturally the password was too short. Added another letter and it still wouldnât take it. Ask for a password reset waited forever and got their secret code word and it didnât work. Looked at this document that was about 43 yards long and agreed to it. Could have auctioned off my boss for all I know. Scanned the QR code 14 times.
Man, whatâs the deal? All I want is a lousy app to monitor my new generator. Iâm starting to wonder do I really need this thing?

MI have the app on my phone, but Iâve used it maybe twice in two years; it sits in a folder behind 12 other âlightlyâ used apps, so yes, you can live without it.
That said, I like having it because it gives me an update if thereâs a power failure while Iâm (weâre) out of the house, and it tells me the status of the fuel reserve (how it monitors that I have no idea).
I suspect some of your troubles came from the âlong waitâ to get the code; those often expire within a set period of minutes, but the rest of it? Bad luck maybe? Start over and try again. BTW my âauto-algorithmâ password (different for every website) is a minimum of 8 characters, which most sits ask for. I have one which requires 14 characters (I donât remember which) and itâs an app that it practically useless anyway, so I always think âSeriously? Who is going to try to steal this password? Why would they even care?â

Finally got it going. My youngest son (55 year old) came over for lunch today and I asked him to look at it. He had the same problem waiting on their secret code. Then we took a different approach and I think we registered myself as a user and supplied a device serial number. We then needed something for the wifi or the bluetooth donât remember which. Decided to take a break and went to lunch. Low and behold when we got back there was something about walking within 10 feet of the device and it would figure out the SSID or whatever it needed on itâs own.
Long story short itâs working now. I think my thoughts are along your lines. Nice to have but I can live without it.
Talk about passwords. I had a new doctor and had to log on to his âportalâ. You know everyone has to have a âportalâ now-a-days. Anyway the darn password was 15 characters long.
Back to the generator. They are very expensive. One of the reasons is the age of our home. Our power from the line comes to the house and follows a pipe under the eve of the house to the breaker box. Well now code in the city of Houston requires that power line to go through the roof then to the breaker box. So new line, new breaker box, new transfer switch, new higher volume gas meter, trenching. It all adds up. And each step of the way you have to wait for somebody to approve it before you go to the next step. Iâm glad we went with the folks we went with because every thing was done by code.
They finally fired it up a couple of days ago to give us a walk through. That son-of-a-gun is some kind of loud. Luckily we installed double pane windows a couple of years ago and once we closed the door you couldnât hardly hear it. Of Iâm so deaf now I have to run the TV at level 50 to hear it.
I worry about disturbing the neighbors with the noise but I have COPD and convinced myself itâs something I need in order to breath.
Kinda looking forward to the next power outage. Want to see what I paid all the bucks for. Oh, by the way, during the test the exhaust did a number on the surrounding grass. Guess Iâll have to learn to live with it.

Yeah, thatâs something I really wish they would do something about. While the houses in our neighborhood are not side-by-each as they are in so many, our Generac is positioned near our house (master bath) but the sound bounces straight off the house and to the bedroom of the next house over. I can imagine they will not be happy when it fires up - which has only happened twice, for short periods, since we had it installed a couple years ago.
I have made it a point to learn how to shut it off so i can do so at night (fuel savings) and as I have a wee bit of solar and batteries, can switch the house over to battery backup overnight. (The solar stuff is more âhobbyâ than anything.)
Our neighborhood is a âpeninsulaâ with about 30 homes, far from everyone else, so when there is a power outage we are last on the list to get service. Itâs gotten better over the years, but we have still been without for 24 hours a couple times in the last few years. (Once it was 3 days, around 30 years ago.)
Anyway: noise. Yeah, I wish theyâd so something about that. Hard to imagine with all the technology at their disposal they canât ameliorate that somehow.
