Is Artificial Intelligence really intelligent?

Reading through the experiences shared here, I’m reminded how nuanced our understanding of intelligence really is. AI excels at pattern recognition and statistical prediction, but that doesn’t necessarily equate to understanding. The gap between simulating intelligence and truly replicating it seems vast. Still, it’s fascinating to witness how these tools continue to evolve and surprise us.

How do you know that human understanding isn’t just extremely good pattern recognition?
It’s masked because humans are continuously learning, thus refining our patterns to match and as we learn we can accept significantly strong hints that some data points are much more important – such as when our other senses tell us ouch! that red and orangey thing is a hot flame. Don’t touch.
