Jensen Huang: $500 K/yr engineer should be consuming at least $250,000 of AI tokens

An “AI token” is a measure of the amount of “compute time” consumed by the stable of AI agents the engineer will be managing to do his job.

I was doing this 40 years ago. I’d get to my office in the morning, “salt the area” with a cup of coffee and open the drawers on a few file cabinets. Then tread a 40 pound box of paper into the dot-matrix printer in my office and run a several hour long print job.

Then I’d disappear until lunch.

I just left using GPT for Claude. No clue how many AI tokens I was using.

The cost of computing rising is not a good game plan. I take it the cost is rising.

Doesn’t your monthly bill show you how many you are using?

Jensen Huang says he would be ‘deeply alarmed’ if his $500,000 engineer did not consume at least $250,000 of tokens

Of course he would be “deeply alarmed”, his business model depends on selling more and more machines that run those tokens!

I am on the free level. I went to the dashboard and zip. No indication of usage.

Claude is better. I just did my first programming job on a component. It took 35 minutes. The instructions were clearer. When I asked questions, the answers were clearer. The result had no bugs.

This seems the equivalent of judging your salespeople by how many miles they’ve driven rather than how many contracts they’ve brought in.
