In case you missed it, the (female) commander of the USCG was relieved, for the crime of DEI.
Coast Guard Acting Commandant Adm. Kevin Lunday …wrote in the release that the agency would target the “maritime border between Texas and Mexico in the Gulf of America.”
**Planes are dumping ocean water to fight the Los Angeles fires** . Here's why using saltwater is typically a last resort. Firefighters battling the deadly wildfires that raced through the Los Angeles area in January 2025 have been hampered by a limited supply of freshwater.
Fired just for the sake of firing him after he had resigned. He was a volunteer. LOL
Andrés responded in his own social media post later on Tuesday morning, stating that he had already submitted his resignation earlier in the month, at the conclusion of his two year term.
“I submitted my resignation last week…my 2 year term was already up ,” the James Beard Award winner wrote on X. "
He continued, “I was honored to serve as co-chair of the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition. My fellow council members - unpaid volunteers like me - were hardworking, talented people who inspired me every day. I’m proud of what we accomplished on behalf of the American people…like a historic partnership between the White House and every major sports league to increase access to sports and health programs for kids.”
Andrés concluded his post by expressing his hope that Trump “exercises his presidential authority so the Council can continue to advocate for fitness and good health for all Americans.”
Also time, when the fire is right at the coast, many more trips can be done without heading off to reservoirs inland… Here in NorCal, the fires of a few years back, we’re 40 miles or more inland, and likely more nearby lakes, so freshwater… We had decent rainfall this year, so not so much concerns up here, next time, hard to guess, but a lot of the destroyed homes have been rebuilt, hopefully paying attention to the dangers, but…
So while we burn, the Gulf freezes, we live in crazy times… A couple new fires in SoCal, near San Diego this time… Our local FD has sent help down that way, maybe extending their stay…
Update: New fires have closed I-5 at the Grapevine, not a good sign at all… My Son just took our Grandson back to UC Long Beach, for hopefully his final year, but made it home before the closing of I-5…
Can their ships even get close enough to shore to do any good? I think the Coast Guard usually fights fires on ships or at ports, not at random points along the coastline.
The Pacific Shelf drops off pretty quickly from the shore line.
One morning when I was driving to work in the fog from the marine layer, I was surprised by the sight of a Navy destroyer about a 1/4 mile offshore from La Jolla Beach – and it was cruising, not grounded.
Yeah, but is it named for the USian California, or the Mexican California? Since the US is supposed to be the center of the universe, we assume the USian California?
In practice, I suspect what you’d do is put a big seawater pump on a Marine Corps landing craft and get as close to shore as the heat from the fire would allow.
Maybe as the fire threat increases, they’ll make that kind of operation part of their training.
