Las Vegas Deliberate Elimination Strategy

Like Disneyland, Las Vegas operators are squeezing the middle class to concentrate on upper income visitors.

A $50 resort fee is a definite blackball from me.

As soon as there is a recession, they will see their occupancy rates plummet and then they will enter the next part of cycle - lowering prices dramatically to entice visitors to come.

I remember when there were all types of perks for going. Those are all gone and the prices are steep. My daughter and son in law live nearby in Summerlin and tell me the strip is dead and the city is trying to incentivize travel to Vegas. We will see if they get it right…doc

Vegas’s biggest threat is online gambling. Just watch any sporting event and you’ll see dozens of FanDuel, ESPNBet, MGM, etc betting apps being touted. To combat that, Vegas, while still a gambling destination, is leaning towards experiences. Come gamble, come see a show, play golf, gun range, etc., etc., etc. and that audience is more likely to be high end.

But all that is predominately if you stay on the strip. One sports writer I follow, talks about his guys yearly trip to Vegas and they almost never go to places on the main strip. Go to old school hole in the wall joints, dive bars, off stip, etc. where you can still enjoy yourself for a decent price.

I don’t know the numbers but isn’t the money concentrated on the strip?
