Me too. A few years later, when I was in the position to do what had been done to me I declined, although the “drive” continued, just not with the arm twisting.
I found out that UW had a luncheon for business leaders whose businesses had hit 100% participation, so a good time to schmooze with others, network, etc. I didn’t go, of course, but at last I understood the pull of gravity for the guy before me. (Not that that made it right.)
