If the Marines are drawn from whiter parts of the country, and they have been mainlining the Fox Noise line of the last 30 years that Californians are America hating Commies, they will be less hesitant to “rough up” the demonstrators.

It’s good you started that sentence with an “if”. Hispanics make up 19% of the US population. In the Marine Corps it is 28%.

After January 6th, some Michigan Guardsmen were deployed to DC. Of course, ideology demanded food service be provided by a for-profit contractor. Of course, profit came before food quality. The same thing happened when the Michigan Dept of Corrections hired a contractor for prison food service.

Noem wrote to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth that the Pentagon should direct military forces “to either detain, just as they would at any federal facility guarded by military, lawbreakers under Title 18 until they can be arrested and processed by federal law enforcement, or arrest them.”
Surely the NRA will come out any minute now, in alignment with their stated raison d‘être.

I suspect it’s just the opposite because of the Pottery Barn Rule – you break it, you bought it.
Section 12406 deployments allow Trump to protect federal personnel and facilities while giving the LAPD and Los Angeles Sheriff’s Office responsibility to restore order elsewhere. It leaves Newsom and Bass to clean up the mess. (There should be some good election ad material amongst all the video.) Californians also get to pay the bills.
If Trump makes an Insurrection Act declaration, the responsibility for order in the entire city then falls into his lap, leaving Newsom and Bass off the hook.
