Apparently one little known provision in this rule forces Medicare Advantage to cover GLP-1 drugs for weight loss with a $50/month co-pay. Something they would prefer not to do.
Obviously, Eli Lilly is charging a lot more than $50 for the drug.

As a pre-diabetic, my A1C level crept up over the line for my medical provider, both my cardiologist & my PA recommended Mounjaro, so away we went… A bit of a rocky start, initially, and for a few months as we sorted out between local pharmacy, Safeway, and my actual insurance company, CVS Online, costs to me varied, $150, $80, $60, but eventually settled in at #150 for a 3 month supply, same as a one month supply! Mixups on the Rx led to a few $150s in the mix, but, by contract they couldn’t change or add to the Rx to make up for the mistaken one month Rxs… But over the months I’ve had no side affects, reduced the A1C below the limits, and along the way lost about 60 pounds I did not need, that had crept up over the years, a combination of lower appetite as well as more awareness, as well as the weekly jabs… So It’s unclear what this new coverage by Medicare will do, as I’m already at the $50/month level by my insurance plan still going since I retired in '02… Maybe the insurance company & Medicare can negotiate some of it, just have to wait and see, I guess… In any case, great to have lost those extra pounds, don’t want to stop now!! Loke to lose another 20, but that would mean more activity, so we’ll see…
