I looked up the Star Mine Equity Summary Score for each stock on Fidelity. The StarMine Equity Summary Score is a consolidated, accuracy-weighted indication of independent research firms’ sentiment for a given stock. It is calculated by StarMine (a division of LSEG) using a proprietary model that focuses on the daily opinions of independent research firms. The more accurate a firm’s recommendations have been in a sector, the more weight its current recommendation will have in the final Equity Summary Score.
Score Range Sentiment Category Description
9.1 to 10.0 Very Bullish Anticipated to significantly outperform peers.
7.1 to 9.0 Bullish Anticipated to generally outperform peers.
3.1 to 7.0 Neutral Anticipated to perform in line with peers.
1.1 to 3.0 Bearish Anticipated to generally underperform peers.
0.1 to 1.0 Very Bearish Anticipated to significantly underperform peers.
It’s important to remember that these ratings are for relative performance, meaning the model anticipates that the highest-rated group of stocks (“Very Bullish”) will outperform the lower-rated groups of stocks, not necessarily that the stock’s absolute price will rise.
All these stocks had losses today. MDT is the only one with a bullish Star Mine score. It has a narrow moat which means that Morningstar expects the company’s competitive advantages to last for 10 to 20 years.
For those who remember the BMW Method, MDT is fairly priced based on a 25 year screen but it does appear to be in a growth trend.
