Need TV Recommendation

I took up my youngest son’s suggestion of a TV on Amazon. This thing has turned out to be the worst piece of sh*t ever. The brand name is Insignia. While this is not a complete list of some of the things it does it’s indicative of the worse things it does:

  • Turns off at random times (NO IT"S NOT THE SLEEP TIMER)
  • Changes channels by itself. (COULD BE A NEIGHBORS REMOTE)
  • Won’t recognize the sleep timer.
  • Program stuff in and it forgets.

I finally gave it the fatal ennama and reset it to factory settings. It worked “after a fashion” for a while and went back to it’s old screwed up self.

Went to Best Buy and found out they don’t sell Dumb TVs. They only sell Smart TVs.

I need a recommendation for a 32" TV for our bedroom that works.

Oh, by the way, while at Best Buy I let them talk me into an antenna tuner and can get all the local stuff ABC, NBC, CBS free. So I took my box back to Xfininity/Comcast and my monthly bill went down to $230 some odd bucks.

I found a 32 inch Insignia TV at Amazon for $89. I would be almost shocked if any $89 TV was not a piece of junk. Nobody is going to make a TV unless there is a market for them – certainly in the 10s of thousands.

I suggest you look at the recommendations from the Wirecutter - a New York Times company. They actually mention a 32 inch model, but keep in mind the world of TVs has changed in the last 30 years.

I have had good luck with Vizio TVs. They pretend to be smart, but you can ignore that. I have 5 of them and they all function well. I bought them at Costco, but I’m not sure they sell that brand anymore. I may have gotten one at WalMart, if memory serves.

Not on the list is HiSense, also from Costco. It requires you to hit power, then a relentless ad for Google TV comes up EVERY SINGLE TIME before it allows you to choose an input or otherwise watch what you want. This one is in the workshop and I don’t watch it much, but it’s beyond annoying.

Walmart’s purchase of Visio was completed in early December 2024.

I have zero experience with 32" TVs, but I love my LG 34" (estimated) ultrawide monitor. As I love my 65" LG TV.

If I wanted a 32" I would simply go to Costco*, pick one, and take it home.

*(Full disclosure: I’m a stock holder as well as a member since 9/23/2009, +1,600%.)
