I’ve followed this horrific story since the outcome of the trial (her trial to an appalling degree) since just before my daughter’s divorce, when it hit the international news headlines.
Not entirely OT given the impact of the E files 
Not quite what I was expecting….more a life story of her, him, their marriage. I’d hoped to get more insight into the intricacies of the French judicial system and its treatment of victims of such violence. Remarkably (or maybe not) the case appears to have been treated as a serious crime against Mme Pelicot from the beginning…..most likely because he was initially caught “upskirting” (something he’d also been charged with years earlier at a time when it wasn’t treated seriously) Of course, the appalling behaviour of the defense attorneys for the more than 50 pervs identified on video….out of over 70 recorded!!….seems like it was par for the course (justifying their puppet masters’ actions by attacking the victim ….Lawyering 101 worldwide, it seems) but boy, did the French legal system play a blinder. Every single one of the perps got prison sentences….and the only one to appeal got extra time for his troubles.
Here’s something that staggered me….apparently almost all of these animals came from no more than a 30 mile radius of the Pelicots’ home. Some were individuals that she saw frequently whilst out shopping. A crime that it’s hard to wrap your head around.
For anyone interested, a library get rather than a purchase, I’d say. I caught this exceptionally dignified interview a couple of days ago.
