Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now recommends vaccines against 11 diseases. No longer recommended: flu, rotavirus, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, some forms of meningitis or RSV.
Google list edited: The CDC recommends vaccines for babies covering diseases like diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (DTaP), Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib), Pneumococcal, polio, measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), and varicella (chickenpox), often given as combination shots to reduce injections, though the exact schedule involves multiple doses and depends on age, with the goal of protecting against 11+ diseases by toddlerhood
Both the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the American Academy of Pediatrics strongly disagree with this CDC change and still recommend all the previous vaccines.
“Just three of the six immunizations the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says it will no longer routinely recommend — against hepatitis A, hepatitis B, and rotavirus — have prevented nearly 2 million hospitalizations and more than 90,000 deaths in the past 30 years, according to the CDC’s own publications.”
RSV, for instance, is the leading cause of infant hospitalization in the United States. It is responsible for thousands of hospital admissions and hundreds of deaths every year, and the vast majority (about 80%) of affected infants have no known risk factors. The vaccine was introduced in 2023.
In fairness, this cartoon was actually a spoof on the anti vaxx sentiments drifting around the Jenner era of vaccination…..would that today’s media outlets poked such fun at the immunological freeloaders and the ignorati who’re putting everyone’s health at risk.
READING THAT BOOKis still the best bet for a one stop reference for anyone looking to avoid the Big Bamboozle and is too impatient to wait for the Amazon delivery or who can’t get to the library today, here’s a little teaser ….….and not behind a paywall, either. A decent account (with one or two small caveats)
Interesting. Here, you have to be 62 to get the RSV shot. I got it, but 1poorlady wasn’t eligible for another year (but now she has it, too).
I was reading just recently that there has been a spike in both flu and measles because of this worm-addled rubbish. We (including 1poorkid, who is an independent adult now) get everything we can get. RSV was new (2023), and we asked for it as soon as we were eligible. New vaccine? Sign us up!
Well, you also have to look at the grass roots support for this sort of buffoonery. Was very much in evidence on the Health and Nutrition board in Days of Yore. Old Lags from that forum had the opportunity to read (or ignore) the Fakefield story unfold pretty much in real time as I was following Ben Goldacre’s Bad Science column in the Grauniad from about 2003/4 onwards and linking to the developments. Plenty of support for the nonsense……right up until the paper was retracted (probably more than a few still believed it was part of a vendetta, mind…..just didn’t get the recs to validate the tomfoolery any longer)
Even I never imagined that there’d be such a growth in the anti vaxx movement to the degree that happened.
A Peter Attia link dump seems appropriate right now. No apologies if the real meat is behind a paywall…..it’s the Frederic Bastiat quote that rings true today. Works for anti vaxx sentiments as it does for cholesterol denialism…..and unfounded dietary claims too!
The real meat was available and it was very well written and explained. Even this idiot was able to understand the presentation. I’m surprised the original study included individuals with prior heart attacks and those on the various drugs. I also wonder if they tested for Lp(a) to see if one group might have a bias.
I read somewhere in there….or maybe one of the included hyperlinks…..that the only lipid measurement was total cholesterol. Sometimes it wasn’t even measured but was self reported. A bit of a stunner in this day and age, right?
Well, that’s the whole point behind Attia’s close scrutiny of the primary document vs the click bait nature of the social media presentation. The half truths are ricocheting round the internet echo chamber at the expense of looking at the details
