OT:Uh O-Another Socialist Mayor Elected

This time in Seattle.

Wilson, who like New York’s Zohran Mamdani is a self-described socialist, focused her campaign on affordability — highlighting her own struggles to afford life in Seattle. She supported a capital gains tax to raise revenue, a move opposed by Harrell, stronger protections for renters and improving public transit.

Are we seeing a new trend here?

United Soviet States of America {USSA)?

Don’t you live in Progressive tax Portugal? Where the top tax rate is 48% and a VAT as high as 23%?

And a capital gain tax rate of 28%?

I know you are teasing, but it is a silly tease, and the word “Soviet” is the shrieking giveaway of the silliness, as that word was the cheater slogan used by the Leninists to hide their totalitarian intentions.

Meanwhile, Democratic Socialism has had a sometimes strong and always thoroughly respectable role in the USA until the World Was and their red scares with aftermaths.

We are not Venezuela.

We will get our act together during the coming great depression.

I do. There must be a reason. There is. It has nothing to do with tax rates.

Teasing, yes, but silly no! I fear that America, like many if not all imperial powers, is spending itself into bankruptcy under the guise of humanitarianism.

Panis et circenses

Why not avoid it?

I totally agree, let’s raise taxes.

And in Los Angeles they passed a rent control ordinance. Increases can’t be more the 90% of the inflation rate, with a cap of 4%.

That is silly. They need to address land use on a large scale (integrated with other infrastructural) and they cannot/will not. Across the board capping of rent increases is stoopid because, if somehow outwardly successfully enforced, will only lead to under the table black market dealing and the exit of decent sane landlords.
Much as I love the beach and the nearby mountains and deserts, I am very glad I am gone from there.
