Pavement Contact Burns

If you fell down and hit the pavement in Las Vegas during the 121 degree record temperatures, you only had 2 or 3 seconds to right yourself before getting a Second Degree Burn. Being down for a little less than one minute could result in a Third Degree Burn.

My HOA repainted the handrail on the stairs going up to my unit. Color is now dark gray instead of white. I had to wear gloves during the heat of the day when the handrail was in direct sunlight last week when we had 4 or 5 days of 100 degree temperatures.

Walking a dog without boots on his paws is unfair to the dog.

Use an inexpensive temp gun to read the temp at various parts of the repainted handrail. If really hot, give the readings to the HOA and tell them they have liability for injuries. Action will not take long, IMO.

I’ll think about it and see how much of a problem it is over time.

In the middle of Winter, I might appreciate a dark handrail that melts the overnight icing more quickly.

Icing should not happen on an open handrail unless something coats it with water when the temp is below freezing. That should happen relatively rarely (1-2 per year?).
